Anyone can play guitar...
I know, I've been teaching for nearly 20 years.
If you want more proof just consider some of the most famous players of all time. Many great blues guitarists were blind or they were so poor they had to make their own instruments. The greatest swing guitarist ever, Django Reinhardt was so badly burnt he could only use two fingers to fret the strings, Black Sabbath's guitarist, Tony Iommi, plays with a prosthetic finger tip ...and check out the armless guitarist on Youtube (Yes.. Really!)
Age is also no boundary (there are many professional players who are still gigging well into their 80's.)
All these people have one thing in common; the desire and the determination to play. If you want to play, I can help.
Many famous songs can be learnt quickly with just a few basic chords (listen to Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley or Ed Sheeran) but with correct technique and guidance my students can progress to any level or musical style of their choice.

Guitar and Bass Lessons

I teach in a dedicated music room in Guiseley, Leeds which has full recording facilities and a wealth of resources. There are spare instruments if you are unable to bring your own.
Lessons are friendly and informal and will focus on your own specific goals. Unlike most tutors, who teach simply to subsidise their gigging career, I tutor guitar as my primary vocation.
Your first hour will include a consultation (chat!) to find out what you would like to learn..there's no point in teaching you how to play classical guitar if you want to play Rock and vice versa. Together we will agree a programme tailored to your requirements.
Beginners
Dont be afraid....The single most repeated phrase I hear when meeting new students is,
"I've always wanted to play, but..."
Many even arrive looking almost apologetic! They seem to worry that they should have achieved a certain standard before taking lessons... Wrong!
We all have to start somewhere. 99% of orchestral musicians are tutored from day one, some famous guitar players are self-taught but most will have started out with a teacher. I can still clearly remember picking up the guitar for the first time (the pain!)
It seems that there has never been an easier time to learn than right now. A wealth of information is available on the internet, the quality of affordable instruments has never been better but for some reason many, without good tuition, struggle to get past the basics.
I will not bombard you with information, instead, step by step, you will gain the confidence and technical skills required to achieve your potential.
Intermediate/Advanced
So you've done the hard work...now its time to play like a professional!
I teach all genres of music at all levels. Whether you wish to work through the grades, study for GCSE or prepare your university entrance pieces, I can help.
In addition to playing I also teach music and theory; but don't expect to wade through weighty text books, we will analyse the specific songs you are already learning or which have a particular relevance to you.
One of the most important things I have learnt over the years is the value of an unbiased, critical opinion of your playing. A fresh, constructive critique of a piece you have possibly played for years can be invaluable, and could turn a
mediocre performance into a show stopper. Usually, "it's not what you play, but the way you play it."
